Penang trip (3rd day)

Yesterday night we planned to go to Eastern & Oriental Hotel for breakfast. This morning, I decided against it because it's expensive and far. It will cost RM 116++ per pax.

I decided to eat at my hotel's cafe. Hey it is ranked no. 4 on tripadvisor among all the restaurants in Georgetown!

Of course we ordered more than just fruits and coffee.

After breakfast we went to the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. It was a rich man's house which didn't impress me much.

Beside Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is a chocolate and coffee museum. I didn't know Malaysia is one of the top cocoa producer in the world. We had free tasting of the chocolates and coffee and walked away with some.

Our agenda for the afternoon was a trip to Ke lok Si.

Then we had the famous Assam laksa at the foot of the hill.

And the famous chendol when we return to Georgetown.

It was already 4pm and we were very tired. We went back to the hotel for a shower and a short nap before dinner. We went to the Kebaya Restaurant at Seven Terrace Hotel. I think it serves Asian-French fusion food.

It's a 4 course set dinner. First we can choose an appetizer. We chose kueh pie tee and pork mantou. The pie tee had fresh vege and deep fried prawns, a good combination of crunch and juicy vege. The mantous are filled with pulled pork which has a lot of flavor.

For mains, we chose the lor ark (braised duck) and lamb shank.

At first I found the duck meat too tough. But later on, I like the sauce (with the lor spices, orange and plum) and the chewiness. The shank is cooked in a green curry-alike sauce. It was nice but not as special as the duck.

For vege, we chose the tempura and sambal goreng.

For dessert. It was a creme brûlée which has pandan flavor and the crispy sugar top is gula melaka. The other was tang yuan with shredded coconut inside and they are in coconut milk, with young coconut flesh and sago.

The whole bill came up to RM232 for two. Though a bit expensive, was a pleasant change from the street food we have been eating for the past 2 days. I told my husband I was already sick of gobbling down my meals in 10 min because I just wanted to get out of the hot, noisy, uncomfortable environment of street hawkers. This is not my idea of enjoying food, no matter how delicious the food is.
