Second tremor
I didn't blog about the first tremor because it was just a mild swaying feeling. Most of us just stood up and checked if the person sitting next to us felt a split second dizzy spell. We joked about evacuating the building but after 5 minutes, everyone returned to work. This happened last Tue at about 3pm +.
Today at about 2pm, I felt the same swaying feeling. This time it was scary. It was like 10x more obvious. Everyone just stood up and walked out of the office nearly immediately. When I reached the staircase, there were already a lot of people walking down from upstairs. We were on the 7th floor and started to descend with the rest of the building occupants briskly.
There were no announcements by the time I left the building. As few months ago, the building was undergoing some major Civil Defence inspections, we had several fire drills when they tested the alarm system. We were very familiar with evacuating the building. I already know what essential things I should bring with me if I were to evacuate. They are car key, villa door key, wallet, phones and passport.
I tried to call my husband. Twice he did not pick up. Then we just stood around in the open area chatting with colleagues. We could see people from other buildings evacuating too.
Had to stand in the shade, afternoon sun too powerful.
When my husband finally feel like taking my call, I asked him to check on the internet what happened. He said he couldn't feel anything from his office and it was a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in the Iran-Pakistan borders.
While waiting for the building management to declare the building safe for re-occupation, we stood there and chatted about how many lives could be lost at this time.
After about 30 minutes, we were allowed to go back to our offices. As I sat down at my table and tried to login to my computer again, I had the false swaying feeling. Then I went to the toilet, and felt a bit anxious as I wondered how inconvenient it is if there is anther tremor now in the middle of my toilet business.
Then I skyped my indirect boss whom I told that I will submit a report end of the day. I told him I couldn't finish my report because of what happened. Good excuse! haha...
