First month of work
I've finished a month of work here at UPNP.
From the 1st day I stepped into this site, when everything is so new and foreign to me, till now, I cannot count how much things I've learned.
Construction is very new to me. They never teach in school. In the past I can't even differentiate between a male or female thread. Now I can repair solenoids and limit switches. However, there are numerous times I encounter the disadvantage of being a girl at a site. There are a lot of things which my male colleagues can do easily but may not be so for me, for example, my voice cannot be heard over the noise of the pumps.
I received my first pay check. It's a lot more than I expected because of the OT pay I accumulated. Money is good reward for the hard work we put in.
Colleagues are very nice. We work hard together and play hard together. Our only enjoyable time is during meal times. We'll think of all kind of places to eat, even as far as Sembawang Shopping Centre. This week, we started a new theme. We're going to school canteens. We've been to NTU and SP. Next will be Ngee Ann Poly and NUS.
That day, we were chatting over dinner. Soo Beng said to me, "Be prepared. Your friends will leave you one by one because you won't have time to join them for any activities. In the end, you'll only have us... ... ... HAHAHA!"
Hmm... very sadistic.
The only worrying thing is I don't have the energy to complete my thesis. But I vowed to myself to finish it by the end of the year. I hope I can do it. ~fingers crossed~
