Cameron Highlands 26-28 Oct 2022

DAY 1
The driver arrived before 4.30am to pick us up. He first picked up 奶奶 and 姑姑, then Vivian and Elden. Four of us boarded the vehicle last,  at about 5.15am.

Bracing for a long ride....

The journey through the customs was smooth. At 5am+ in the morning, there was no queue at all. After passing the customs, the girls fell asleep.

7am: Lunch
We stopped at Yong Peng for breakfast at about 7am.

We ate noodles/kway teow with fishballs and yong tau foo. I found the fishballs, yong tau foo and soup a bit salty.

We had a toilet break at the foot of Cameron Highlands at about 12noon. We were not very hungry so we decided to climb up Cameron Highlands and have our lunch when we reach the top.

On the way up the Cameron Highlands, Roselle announced that her first tooth has dropped. 😅

3 pm: Lunch.
We were all hungry by the time we stopped at a restaurant (Restoran Lai Fatt) on Cameron Highlands. It was normal chinese tze char dishes. I only remembered there were lots of houseflies.

The deep fried trotter was good.

3.30pm: Our first stop on Cameron Highlands was the Lavender Garden.
There were lots of flowers and  decorations. It was a good walk after sitting in the car for 9 hours.

4.30pm: Second stop wa the Sheep Sanctuary

This is an exasperating moment for me. The sheep were full of shit on their butt, down their hind legs, around their noses and mouths (maybe boogers).... and my daughter was hugging them and burying her face into their butts.
Nearly 崩溃.

5pm: Check in at our hotel

7pm: Dinner
We went for a steamboat at 晶晶西餐生鍋屋.

This was also recommended by tw's colleague because there is supposed to be a nice scenery. But it was pitch-black if we look out.

We went back to our hotel, Strawberry Park Resort at 9pm+. We booked a large apartment so that we could all stay together.

There was a living area and 4 rooms.

master bedroom with added extra bed.

one room with queen size bed

two rooms with single beds

There were 2 bathrooms, forgot to take photos.

The rooms were pretty cold in the night. I really dreaded sitting on the cold toilet seat. I thought it would be extremely difficult to bathe for the girls because of the cold temperature, but they seemed to be ok as the water is hot.

DAY 2

7.30am: Breakfast
We had breakfast at 7.30am as the driver came to pick us up 8.30am.

After breakfast, Adelle took few photographs around the hotel.

9am: BOH Tea Centre
The driver advised we go up to BOH Tea Centre in early morning to avoid traffic because the road up and down is quite narrow.

There was a platform overlooking the tea plantation. Great views.

Took a photo among the tea plants just before leaving.

10.30am: Strawberry farm

Each plate of strawberries cost RM40. We had to pick 3 plates. Roselle went off with 奶奶 and 姑姑, Vivian with Elden, while I picked strawberries with Adelle.

Adelle could only pick strawberries at her eye level. Not the best ones but can pass. Luckily the other 2 teams picked very big ripe ones.

In the end, we still had to top up a bit of money because the total weight is more than the designated weight.

11.30 am: Butterfly Farm
Then we stopped at the Butterfly Farm before lunch. I did not particularly like butterflies or any creepy crawlie insects. The Butterfly Farm was quite small and neat, no funny smell or insects dropping on people, so I could still bear with it.

The kids enjoyed the place a lot though. They even dared to hold the butterflies.

After holding one butterfly, Adelle thought she could hold any butterfly. She kept putting her fingers out so that the butterflies can rest on her. She was utterly disappointed. No other butterflies wanted to.

We worked out of the insect house and there were more sheeps and other animals. It shouldn't be called a Butterfly Farm.

12.30 pm: Lunch
We had lunch at a tze char "restaurant". There was a long wait for the food to be served and Adelle started to throw a temper. She insisted to eat a whole plate of rice herself with no dishes.

2pm: Cactus Valley

Adelle fell asleep in the vehicle after lunch. Roselle wanted to visit the cactus farm. I tried to wake Adelle up but to no avail, until I said "got sheep in the cactus farm". She immediate woke up. It was a less crowded farm but not much interesting stuff, except for cactus, flowers and more plants. 奶奶 bought them windmills.

3pm: Cameron Centrum Shopping Mall
We stopped at Cameron Centrum for coffee and shopping. When I last visited Cameron Highlands 10 years ago, the town was made up of two rows of shophouses. Now they have a few shopping malls. Cameron Centrum has all the common stores we have, like Starbucks, Guardian, hypermart etc.

5 pm: Back at Strawberry Park Resort
We reached the hotel at about 5pm. Papa brought the girls to the playground.

We stayed in the hotel for dinner.

DAY 3
7.30am: Breakfast

9 am : Morning market
We bought some snacks, more strawberries, corn,  broccoli, cactus to bring back to Singapore

10am: On the way home

1pm: Stopped at Tapah for lunch at A&W.

Adelle enjoyed her cheeseburger.

The rest went for a bit of shopping and the two pampered girls already started complaining about the hot weather. They insisted we go back to wait in the air-conditioned vehicle. I think Cameron Highlands was enjoyable for them mainly because of the cooling weather. If it were hot and humid like Singapore, they probably wouldn't enjoy it as much.

6.30pm: Reached Singapore

The driver was pretty experienced which made the trip quite hassle-free. We just followed his advice on where to visit. It was our first trip after Covid-19 and first trip for Adelle. Hope we have more trips together soon.
