Milestones

Chinese has a phrase for the milestones of one's life - 生老病死. This year I am celebrating milestone - "生" .

Birth of my second girl, Adelle.

On 10 May (Fri) 8.15pm, I admitted myself to the delivery suite when I found my bp high. I was kept under observation in the triage room. Just laid there for them to measure my bp while listening to another pregnant lady in the next bed telling the doc how she fainted at the airport.

8.45pm
transferred me to the delivery room. Doc checked my cervix, unfortunately not even 1cm.

10pm
Doc received instruction from Dr Edwin to just go ahead with my induction. I was scheduled for induction the following week anyway.
Watched TV while waiting for the medication.

11pm
Inserted induction medicine.

11 May 12midnight
Started feeling the contractions at 3-4min intervals. Still bearable and felt happy that the medication is "working".

8am
Doctor checked cervix, still no improvement. I'm still having the contractions and asked for the painkiller jab. I started to feel worried. If by 11am (12h after medication) and my labour is not induced, will they make me go for c-sect? This is the last thing I want.

11am
Nurse suggested I walk around the room which should help to hasten the labour. I waited for my husband to come back from lunch. Started walking around at 11.20am.After just a while, I could feel stronger contractions. Sometimes so painful that I had to stop and support myself by the wall.

12pm
4 cm dilation. Yeah, finally. Happy that active labour finally started. Immediately asked for epidural haha.

1pm
Had my epidural. All pain relieved, I'm relieved.

2.30pm
Doc said still only 4-5cm dilation. Broke waterbag.

2.40pm
6cm dilation

3pm
Fully dilated.

3.10pm
Nurse called Dr Edwin. He said will reach hospital in 30min. Nurse asked me, can wait or not. Hmm... Why not, I had my epidural, wait lor.

3.39pm
It was painless, I couldn't feel the contractions because of the epidural. I just pushed when Dr Edwin told me to. Three pushes, Adelle was out.

The nurse checked and cleaned Adelle and passed to me for skin to skin. I didn't have a chance to do this with Roselle. Adelle is a lucky girl.

After two hours, we were transferred to the ward. KKH encourages the baby to room-in with Mommy, so Adelle stayed in my room most of the time for the next two days.

That evening, Roselle came to the hospital and met Adelle for the first time.

I wish they will keep each other company forever.
