Year 2015

Beginning of the year is usually interesting. After the festive Christmas and new year's day, there's my birthday, our wedding anniversary, then later CNY and Valentine's day to celebrate.

But....  I totally missed out on the Christmas and new year season because I was ill for nearly the whole December 2014! I had taken a vaccination jab in April 2014, and was thinking to myself that I couldn't be sick for at least a year. The news said many people were hit by this new strain of virus, which the vaccination won't be ready until April 2015. Think I won't need it this time.

I postponed my birthday celebrations  as there's no use spending a lot of money on eating food which I couldn't taste.

On our wedding anniversary, we went back to the restaurant where we had our wedding banquet, Grand Shanghai.

It didn't change at all, other than I thought it looked much smaller than I remembered, dunno why.
As there were only 2 of us, we could only order 2 dishes and some desserts. I ordered my favourite dish of our banquet, wasabi prawn. Ended up a bit too much for 2 of us, over dosage of prawns. The other dish was braised duck with sea cucumber.

Desserts...

and entertainment.

I had a made-up birthday dinner with my friends at Prego, Fairmont Hotel. It was our first time at this restaurant. I had forgotten to take photos of our appetizers. I only have a photo of dessert. Though without photos,I must write about this. Because we really had a tough time trying to recall where we went for my 2014 birthday.

Restaurant interiors.

Quite last minute, we decided to book a staycation at Sentosa. This was also the place we had our honeymoon, so there are both good and "bad" memories. It was also a pleasant surprise that prices of some hotels are not as exorbitant as they were sometimes. I managed to find a room for S$220 on a Sat night.

Amara Sanctuary

While waiting for our room, we could help ourselves at a cute cart of kachang puteh and refreshments at the lobby. Yes, I know this is a very cheapskate behavior, but it's really nice to have some small treats. All hotels should practice this!

We were upgraded to a Verendah Studio. They took us on a buggy and showed us to our room.

Just married or not, you can ride this buggy.

We stopped in front of a old colonial-style building. I was pleasantly surprised by the quiet surroundings and lush greenery.

The room was normal.

It had a verendah (hence the name of this room type), but please lah, it faces a concrete wall. What's the point?

This is the bathroom with very big windows and very sheer blinds. I was very worried whether people from the building across can see me. There's nothing I could do, the trauma is on them if they did.

Nice to have a coffee machine in the room.

One of the pools which we swam in.

Many peacocks wandering the hotel premises. They really just roam around and ignore people.

We had coca steamboat in the evening.

Taking stupid photos....

While waiting for my husband go toilet, I sat at these benches at RWS. Wah, just 5s later, I had to get up. They are soooooo uncomfortable. It explains why nobody sits here.

On the second morning, we walked to the nearby beach. As a "tradition", we had an apple picnic.

We also saw a wedding taking place in our hotel. The hotel has this glass pavilion, which is a very cool place for solemnization. I think the pavilion can easily sit 30 people and they also had a string quartet performing inside. Very classy.

The only letdown is unglam hotel guests like us walking around, looking on curiously, in tee, shorts and slippers.

Saw the bride at the villa just opposite our hotel room.

Before I visited this hotel, I was a bit worried about the bad reviews I saw on Tripadvisor. It just confirmed my skeptism of things people write on the web. Not that people lie, but people's perspectives and reactions vary too much. The way how people write may not be representative of the truths or how you yourself may perceive.

Maybe I should write a more subjective review on Tripadvisor to 还它清白?
