The true spirit of research
This was published in Nature. People who are not in the research field may not be aware, but Nature is one of the most prestigious journal (highest impact factor from Thomson/ISI).
Perhaps different researchers have different interest and motivation but the ultimate goal "should be for the benefit of all and we should pursue our goals with the intention of disseminating that knowledge freely".
Yes, this is the true spirit of research.
You can be the one who discover a cancer cure or one who pioneer rocket science, but if you attempt to impede the progress of science by hoarding information, you are nothing. Nothing at all.
