9. Buying 嫁妆 and other chinese customary items for wedding

Accompanied my mom to Chinatown to buy my 嫁妆. Initially I thought there are only 2 to 3 things to buy. In the end, we walked away with more than a dozen items. We had to get my brother to come to Chinatown to help us drive the stuff back home.

The shop specializing in chinese wedding items in Chinatown.

Bedside lamps

Tea set. To be used on the wedding day for the tea ceremony. 1 set for bride and 1 set for groom.

Decorations

Tubs, towel, mugs and a basket of needle and thread.

The umbrella to be used to send the bride off.

Items to be used for the bride on the day before she leaves the house, ruler, comb, mirror, red thread. The fan and handkerchief is for the bride to return to her parents just before she leaves to signify she has left her family.

Isn't that a lot of stuff? But I've already tried to stick to the bare minimum. There are a lot of more obedient brides who will have more 嫁妆 and obey more customs.
