Sick again
I'm sick again. This is the second time this year (the previous time was in April, just before exam period).
For your information, I was seldom sick. My family doctor recognizes me as the one who go to him only for travel vaccinations and medication. I think that's all he saw in my medical records.
Perhaps it's due to old age. If I miss a night's sleep, I will feel sicky the next few days. If I'm lucky, it will not break out. If I'm not, it will develop into a full-blown illness, like fever, sore throat or runny nose.
My 姑妈 just passed away on Thursday. I remember her as a kind, smiling lady who always talk to us softly. Everytime she spoke to me, my brain has to do a ultra-quick analysis of whether she's talking to me in mandarin or cantonese because she's too soft. If she spoke in mandarin, I will be able to reply as per normal. If she spoke in cantonese, I'll have to pay extra attention, or else with my limited grasp of the language, I will not be able to catch what she's saying.
You see, we have some kind of a communication problem. All my fault, because I didn't learn my dialects well.
For the past 2 days I went down to her wake held at Toa Payoh. My Aunt has a big family, 11 children, each with their own families as well, so, countless grandchildren. A few of my cousins and nephews are 生意人, so I heard there'll be lotsa visitors. There's nothing much I can help so I just sit around, talking to my cousins and nephews. And just by doing so, I can fall sick. I'm a winner.
She'll be cremated on Wednesday. I'll be sending her off. I think I'll miss her.
Did I mention that my family doctor is a charming middle-age man who have not seemed to age since I was 5 years old? He must be a 老妖.
