Planning for a backpack trip
in SEA....
is so difficult!
First of all, I don't know where to start. Just checking which countries require visa application for entry drove me crazy. I've been to the MFA website but can't seem to find the information. People say this is the cyber age, but there're so much information which I can't find on the net!
In the end, I have to send an email to the embassies. Example,

The people from the Vietnamese Embassy are quite efficient. They even wrote "sufficient funds to maintain yourself during your stay in Vietnam". Wow, so concerned. I'm touched.
Laotians! Pls reply my email! (So people from Laos are called Laotians. Thanks to Albert and Sing Chuan for that info.)
I wonder whether we're able to make it for the trip. There are some articles that advise against women backpacking in SEA alone. Well, I am not alone. But two is just one plus one. However, I couldn't imagine asking anyone else to join us. Maybe making a guy join us will make it safer but I don't want a someone around who will nag and sulk at our ladies' habits. Anyway, most of our common friends are still working, so we can't expect them to take such a long leave.
It's actually quite interesting to read up on the countries we're going to visit. I think the best thing about such trips is the element of adventure and uncertainty. Yeah, that's the spirit of backpacking.
